Generating organic traffic using article marketing

SEO, or search engine optimization, can be such a frustrating task to perform for both small businesses as well as the professionals who get paid to improve search engine results for websites and online ventures. While there are certain things you can do to accomplish better rankings, there is sometimes an element of chance or fluke luck that is required to achieve first page results in a competitive keyword phrases.

Over the last year I have worked with a number of clients with the search engine marketing and have been able to help all of them through a variety of strategies including securing backlinks on relevant sites, article marketing, directory submission and a few other tricks I have learned over the years. There have been many examples where I have done the exact same thing for multiple clients but achieved varying results. I always preach consistent SEO marketing efforts and patience but every once in a while you hit one out of the ball mark and can dramatically increase organic traffic to a client’s website.

As a freelancer one of the things that I have had to do though is downplay the huge successes I have achieved on behalf of my clients and sell them on the slow and steady approach. It can be a rather difficult thing not to “toot your own horn” but the reality of the situation is you cannot always achieve the ideal results based on the ever changing world of SEO marketing. What may have worked last year or even last month may not work today. Trying to keep up to date with all the latest trends can be a full-time task in itself.

While the field is constantly changing, one of the things that I have noticed to be working extremely well over the last six months is article marketing. If you’re not familiar with the concept it’s actually quite simple. Companies, individuals or online ventures write an article based on something related to their business and submit it to one of the many article directories operating on the Internet. These are free to submit to and you can include a few backlinks to your website using relevant keywords.

There are a few ways you can benefit from article marketing. The first is the fact that you can secure backlinks to your website from directories that have a large presence and PR value. These are essential to your SEO marketing efforts. The second benefit is organic traffic that is created when these articles are spidered by the major search engines. If you article is well written and actually answers a real world question or offers valid information, you could end up having potential customers find it and visit your website as a result. Lastly, these article directories encourage others to republish submitted articles and leave all linking information intact. This can potentially translate into a number of other backlinks to your company website.

In January 2011 I am planning on launching a new website and service around article marketing so stay tuned. In the meantime feel free to leave a comment on this blog post if you’re in need of some assistance in getting organic traffic to your website using this method of promotion.

Thanks Tim. Greatly appreciated. I’m hoping to spend a bit more time updating this blog as well. Didn’t realize how long it was in between posts… lol.
