Charge what you’re worth – My takeaway from a recent episode of the Side Hustle Podcast

I’m a big fan of Nick Loper’s podcast The Side Hustle Show, which is aimed at entrepreneurs who have a side business. His tagline is absolutely killer;

“Your 9 to 5 may make you a living but your 5 to 9 makes you alive!”

I listen to this podcast religiously now even though I turned my side hustle into a full-time business because he brings on some very interesting guests, asks fantastic questions that draws out actionable points for his audience and just seems to be a nice, down to earth kind of guy. Nothing is more off putting for me than having an interviewer who presents themselves as a know-it-all and takes every opportunity to talk about themselves and promote their own business. Nick is definitely not one of those guys and you can tell he’s taking every opportunity to learn as well.

I recently created a video on How To Find Expired Domains With PR For Free and uploaded it to Youtube, which I will share with you at the end of this post. The idea to create the video was sparked by a conversation I had in an entrepreneurial driven Google Hangout a few weeks ago when someone had asked me what tools I use to find expired domains. Another question that popped up during that conversation was what are the benefits of registering and developing expired domains so I thought I would create this post to outline the benefits I have experienced over the years.

A quick qualifier on this post. The benefits that I discuss are for new projects, not SEO purposes to promote your main money sites using link wheels or tiered linking strategies.

I’ve been talking to a lot of freelance writers over the last few months as I work on some information products I plan to launch in the near future. One of the most hotly contested topics that has been brought up during these discussions are the advantages and disadvantages of job boards. There seems to be an even split of those who absolutely love sites such as oDesk and Freelancer to source new writing gigs while others avoid them like the plague.

The advantages of these services are easily recognizable; a large number of potential clients and projects to bid on, most handle escrow payments, a feedback system to rate both freelancers and clients, etc. What might not be as apparent to newcomers are the disadvantages to using job boards to attract new clients. I wanted to outline a few of the items that I found to be rather discouraging for those that may be looking at using them in the near future to secure some online writing jobs.

How to transfer accounts from DirectAdmin from cPanel manually

I am in the process of shutting down one of my old dedicated servers to a series of VPS accounts and was having some difficulty in getting this completed. The old server has DirectAdmin while the new virtual private servers are powered by cPanel. Due to the fact that these sites are rather large, I kept getting an SSH timeout error when trying to use cPanel’s built in account transfer tools. This could also have been caused by a legitimate SSH connection error. Continue reading “How to transfer accounts from DirectAdmin from cPanel manually”

Advice to the solopreneur – If you’re doing something that is making you money, stop it!

The whole “solopreneur” thing is something that I’ve begun to embrace over the last couple of weeks after seeing it mentioned in a few articles and referred to in podcasts that I have been exploring. A solopreneur is essentially a one man or woman show who operates their business with no permanent staff. That perfectly describes what I do at this point in my life. I have a neat little setup where I do a variety of tasks for various clients including freelance writing, Internet marketing, copyright enforcement and SEO research in addition to a small network of affiliate blogs that I earn a small passive income from.
